Cakes for Cancer with the Denver Broncos Supporting Brent's Place

This morning we attended the Cakes for Cancer Pancake Breakfast with the Denver Broncos to support Brent's Place!  It was an amazing time of fun and fellowship for such a worthy cause.  Cakes for Cancer was started by Zane Beadles, #68 Offensive Lineman for the Denver Broncos as a way he could contribute to helping find a cure for cancer and work with kids affected by the disease.  It was started when he was playing at the University of Utah and met a 7 yr old boy named Ryker who was stricken with Glioblastoma Multiforme cancer.  He lost his battle and Zane wanted to do something to help other kids fight this fight.

My Little Guy with Zane Beadles

Brent’s Place operates two hospital hospitality houses — one near Denver’s Presbyterian Saint Luke’s Hospital with six apartments primarily for adults with cancer and their families, and one adjacent to Aurora’s Anschutz Medical Campus with 16 apartments primarily for children with cancer and their families.

The new facility also includes social and activity spaces, a meeting room, commercial kitchen, library, exercise room, and an outdoor play space designed specifically for immune-compromised children.

In addition to the other fundraisers, Zane and the other offensive lineman will donate $250 for every pancake block made this season, like they did last year and raised close to $15,000!  They are some truly awesome guys.

You can read more about the program here!

It was an honor to meet some of the Denver Broncos, and I also got to meet Chef Keegan Gerhard from Chopped!  We love him!  It's not often I get to meet a celebrity.  He owns d Bar Desserts in Denver and was one of the nations top 10 pastry chefs in 2002 & 2004.  You have to visit them!  They have amazing food.

Me and My Little Guy with Chef Keegan Gerhard!

The pancakes we had were from Snooze, an A.M. Eatery, and they were INCREDIBLE!  I will definitely be frequenting that establishment too!

Be sure to check out all the sites for more information.  Brent's Place is a wonderful avenue to give if you're looking for a charitable organization.

Pay It Forward - Loving Hugs Drive - Castle Rock

For the month of November, Stroller Strides and LUNA Moms Club of Castle Rock is doing a Loving Hugs Drive.  Is your house overloaded with stuffed animals that your kids never even play with?  Well, let's donate them to an organization that can actually use them!  Loving Hugs, Inc. is a non-profit organization based in Littleton that collects new and gently used stuffed animals (called "hugs") to send to children around the world living in very stressful situations - such as war zones, orphanages, refugee and IDP camps, and hospitals, to give them some emotional comfort through a soft, cuddly ‘portable hug’.  For the entire month of November we will be having a Hugs Drive to collect your new or gently used stuffed animals.  Check HERE for the guidelines of animals that will be accepted.  Feel free to bring them to me at any of our LUNA Moms club events this month.  Since I'll be storing them at my house until the end of the month, if you plan on coming to our Mom's Night Out at my house, that would be a perfect time to bring them, but feel free to bring them to me whenever is convenient for you. I'd love to see if we could donate over 100 hugs from our group.  So go through those toy boxes!  This would be a great opportunity to get your kids involved and explain to them that some kids don't have any stuffed animals to hug and they could help them by sharing theirs.

Like them on Facebook HERE!

Pay Your Expired Coupons Forward to the Military

ps.psd.co.png

Here’s a little information about the Overseas Coupon Program:

Our program serves military families by assisting you to forward “manufacturer’s coupons” to overseas military bases. These bundles of coupons are placed on tables, at the PX and Commissary, or handed out for use by military members and families on base. This helps the family save valuable dollars and stretch their budget.

This is not a tax deductible charity. This is a patriotic charity. You are supporting the service person and their family by sending coupons that you do not use, and all of the extra ones that you can find, to them.

You may have a couple of questions:

Donation size?

There is no minimum. You’ll find that those pesky little pieces of paper add up fast! The average Sunday newspaper contains approximately $125 worth of coupons. Even the smallest donation, when combined with the donations of other individuals, will make a difference in the lives of many military families serving our country overseas.

Expired Coupons?

2 Months Max! Yes expired coupons are accepted. We recommend not sending any coupons older than 2 months expired on the date of shipment.

Please join me in helping our military families!

U.S. Air Force- Alconbury, UK

Mail your coupons to:
RAF Alconbury
423 ABS/DPF
APO AE 09470

I chose this group because there were many families and my father was in the Air Force. If you want to send to another group you will find more, here!

If you use a different site to send your coupons to military families please feel free to pass it on in the comments!

Extreme Pay It Forward Opportunity - Surrogacy

If you are a mother, you know the indescribable joy of having your child and the constant joy they bring to your daily life.  I know for me, it took 4 years to get pregnant with my little boy, and I am grateful beyond words every single day I get to spend with him.

If you are interested in helping other families who cannot have children of their own, I have some information for you about surrogacy.

ConceiveAbilities is a Surrogacy Placement agency based out of Chicago. They are interested in introducing and educating people on the details involved in the surrogacy process.

Countless intended parents are looking for thoughtful, compassionate women to help them in their journey towards having a family of their very own. There are many more intended parents than available surrogates.  Successful surrogates are young mothers with wide, varied interests and a overarching desire to help others while teaching their own children the value of compassion and generosity through the act of surrogacy. If you know of someone who meets the following criteria, we would like you to introduce ConceiveAbilities to them. All inquires are kept in the strictest confidentiality.

Here is a link to an initial "request for more information" form:  ConceiveAbilitiesAll inquires are held in the strictest confidence.

Surrogates must be:

Between the ages of 21-38
Non-smoker, non-substance abuser
Have at least one biological child at home they are raising
Have medical insurance
Be financially and emotionally stable

First time Surrogate Mothers are compensated between $27,000-$32,000 for their generous time and commitment to the process.

We hope you'll consider this wonderful opportunity. Here is your unique and confidential link to share with potential Surrogate Mothers. Again, all inquires are held in strictest confidence.

More About ConceiveAbilities: Here is their blog: http://www.allthingsconceivable.com/ Nazca Fontes is a renown biologist and one of the country's foremost experts on egg donation, surrogacy and the infertility industry. Her multi-faceted expertise, combined with her own less-than-ideal firsthand experience as an egg donor, became the unique platform upon which Nazca developed and nurtured ConceiveAbilities. The ConceiveAbilities team of highly educated and licensed professionals brings an unmatched level of expertise, knowledge and personal commitment to support intended parents, egg donors and surrogates through to a successful outcome.

Share Your Breakfast - Pay It Forward

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, yet the alarming reality is that nearly 1 in 4 children live in homes where food is not always available, making breakfast hard to come by.1  That’s why Kellogg’s is asking YOU to help. By simply sharing a photo of your breakfast, Kellogg's will help share breakfast with kids in school who might otherwise miss out.
The Share Your Breakfast program is running now through July 31, 2011, and Kellogg’s goal is to help share one million breakfasts by the start of the 2011-2012 school year - so every breakfast counts!
How You Can Help
Each time you share a photo or description of your breakfast, Kellogg's will donate the monetary equivalent of school breakfasts to Action for Healthy Kids, a nonprofit organization that focuses on childhood obesity and undernourishment.  Here are a few ways you can help:
  • Upload a photo of your breakfast and share it at www.shareyourbreakfast.com.
  • Text your photo with the word “Share” to 21534.
  • Rally your friends and family to share their breakfast. Spread the word any way you like.
  • Tweet about Share Your Breakfast using #shareURbreakfast.
  • Visit the “Help A Child” tab on Kellogg's Facebook page and upload your photo straight from there!
WHAT is Share Your Breakfast?
In partnership with Action for Healthy Kids, the Kellogg’s Share Your Breakfast program is designed to reach the goal of helping share one million breakfasts with kids who need them most.
One way Action for Healthy Kids supports their cause is by providing funding directly to school districts to expand or initiate school breakfast programs.
Join Kellogg's on National Breakfast Day!
To continue spreading the word about Share Your Breakfast, join us on March 8, 2011 in New York's Grand Central Terminal between 6am and 12pm to celebrate National Breakfast Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the power of breakfast.  At the free event, TV star and mom Melissa Joan Hart will host a community breakfast and invites you to join Tony the Tiger and Snap! Crackle! and Pop!® to both enjoy and share your breakfast.

And if you don't live near New York City, there are still ways to participate!  On National Breakfast Day only, there's one more way to share your breakfast.  All you have to do is tweet a description of your breakfast (no photo required) with #ShareUrBreakfast on March 8, National Breakfast Day - every tweet will count as one more breakfast shared!

Pay It Forward - Blanket Buddies

Here is a great Pay It Forward opportunity!

Sometimes you hear a story or situation that really pulls at your heartstrings, something that reminds you about some good there is in this world and you just have to do something, reach out...pass on the information...Pay It Forward!

I was recently introduced to the not for profit 501c3 organizations called Blanket Buddies. The mission of Blanket Buddies is to provide physical & spiritual aid to orphans around the world.

Here is some of their story:

Well, we are known as Blanket Buddies and when we started, we were working with one orphanage in Kherson, Ukraine. At that orphanage, there are  approx. 100 children- ages birth to 4 years. These children lay in cribs all day and very rarely have anyone pick them up and hold them, love on them, etc. We felt lead to do something and the only thing we could think of was to make a blanket for each child. That's how we got started. Since then, we are now working with 7 orphanages in the Ukraine and 2 in Mexico. And even though we still make blankets for the children, we have found that they need medicines much more desperately than the blankets- so we raise funds to help with that. Some of the other  things that we are looking toward in the (hopefully near) future is the purchase of a transition house where the children will go when they get too old for the orphanage. There they will learn trade skills to help them in the outside world. The mattresses these kids sleep on are falling apart and are mere rags... we'd like to raise enough money to at least purchase them some new ones. We've also been praying about the idea of posting individual pictures of some of the children who have been in the orphanage for some time, with information on how they can be sponsored. (100% of every dollar that is donated goes directly to the orphans- everyone that is associated with Blanket Buddies volunteer their time and talents).

As I read through the Blanket Buddies Blog, the Blanket Buddies website and their Facebook & Twitter pages, I thanked God that there are people out there who have the ability and the willingness to reach out to those little ones in need! I also have a strong need to help children, particularly those who are in orphanages around the world. Our personal lives have been touched significantly by one little boy who spent the first part of his life in an orphanage and has now come home to make a family--we often think about what could have been if he had not come home. And, hopefully, someday soon, that family will make additions to their family in a similar manner, as is their dream. For these reasons and more, the mission of the Blanket Buddies (and the plight of the orphans they are helping) is very near & dear to my heart, SO, I am reaching out to my readers to send Blanket Buddies a little support as well!

So, what can you (our readers) do to help Blanket Buddies with their wonderful mission?
  • Pray--for the children, for the orphanage workers, for the Blanket Buddies volunteers
  • Follow the Blanket Buddies Blog, learn more about their story & the good they are doing
  • Follow Blanket Buddies on Twitter
  • Follow Blanket Buddies on Facebook
  • Follow Blanket Buddies on Google Friend Connect
  • Donate Money--remember 100% goes to the orphan and they are a non-profit 501c3 organization
  • Volunteer to help in any way you can
  • Spread the word about Blanket Buddies & their mission

I encourage each one of you to Pay it Forward to Blanket Buddies as little or as much as you are able. The orphans in the Ukraine & Mexico are counting on them for help.

Thank you to my friend Michelle for helping with this post.

Thanks MySpringfieldMommy.com!
