2012 Car Seat Guidelines and Recommendations
Do you wonder about booster seats and age requirements? I find that many of us think we know the guidelines but aren’t really sure, so here are the guidelines and recommendations.
American Academy of Pediatrics:
Infants and Toddlers: All infants and toddlers should ride in a Rear-Facing Car Seat until they are 2 years of age or until they reach the highest weight or height allowed by their car safety seat’s manufacturer.

-Children less than 4 years old or less than 40 pounds must be in an appropriate child safety seat.
-Children ages 4 through 7 who weigh at least 40 pounds must be in an appropriate child safety seat or booster seat unless they are 80 pounds or 4’9″ tall.
-Children 8 and over or weighing at least 80 pounds or at least 4’9” tall are required to be secured by a safety belt or buckled into an appropriate booster seat.
The American Academy of Pediatrics also recommends that all children younger than 13 years should be seat belt restrained in the rear seats of vehicles for optimal protection.
